Product reviews
Over the years many anglers have tried and tested the many ground baits that are on the market. However a new ground bait has recently hit the scene and Tri-cast Calders John Goodwin has been fortunate enough to land an individual sponsorship with Champion Feed Ground baits.
John has been using various mixes from their range and is seeing some excellent results on the River Don, Rotherham Canal and his favourite venue Ulley Reservoir. John tells us the secret to this ground bait is that it’s fresh out the factory in Belgium and shipped out to order so there is very few bags that have a long shelf life and he believes this additional freshness gives him that edge.
A brief overview of some of their products are below
Speedo, comes in natural or black, is Johns first choice for his base mix on canals and slow rivers which becomes slightly sticky if you overwet it and the black colour stays in the crumb one fellow champion feed angler left the black crumb mixed up for almost a week and it never lost any colour when wet!
Secreto, when the target species is roach John mixes this 50/50 with speedo and as the name suggests it has a secret ingredient that the little red fins love.
Wonderblack, is a very sweet mix that is ideally suited to skimmers and bream and John mixes this according to the depth on its own or 50/50 with speedo in shallower water or 50/50 with leam. The skimmers graze over the leam ground bait and their natural feeding causing a cloud that attracts more skimmers making them more confident to feed.
Monster G, not a mix John has had time to test at the moment but it will form part of his fishing during the coming summer. This is a fishmeal betaine mix but doesn’t have the smell of fishmeal due to the beatine. Johns friend and England Feeder Team member, Wayne Bartholomhew, swears by this groundbait and is convinced it attracts and holds a bigger stamp of fish.
